Sports and skill-development summer camp with inclusive approach for 9-14-year-old children

Our informal group of young people was formed in Budapest in 2018 when we started a project called Kacsakő Experience Camp in close collaboration with Egyesek Youth Association that has provided administrative and professional support for us. We - psychologists, sociologists, sport coaches, and intercultural educators of disadvantaged children - are making our dream come true by organizing activities with an inclusive approach. We provide opportunities for children with different socio-economic backgrounds to meet and gain shared experiences. We contribute to the development of their social and emotional skills, we help them become more tolerant and open to different points of views, while we support them to form a diverse and inclusive community.
Our activities and summer camps are free of charge. Our participants are 9-14 years old children who come from state care institutions, Roma segregations and from segregated schools, and also children who come from majority, non-Roma, privileged families.
fair play sports
Laying down the rules of the matches together lets the children practice democratic decision making, and playing the games without a referee and only with the support of an adult mediator we empower them to stand up for themselves when they experience injustice.
arts & crafts
Beside team sports, we create the opportunity for individual focus through arts & crafts activities where children can develop their manual skills while they practice self-expression and build their self-esteem.
adventures
Stepping out of the comfort zone opens up the world of the children and contributes to tackle challenges of their own lives. Participating on these programmes also fosters group cohesion.
teamworks
We create diverse groups of children and we support positive changes on group dynamics by implementing a project together. While working in small groups we provide a safe place for reflections.

Our goal is to offer diverse and high quality programmes free of charge for the participating children who otherwise would never meet in normal circumstances due to the different and distant social bubbles they live in. With our monthly KacsaKő Klub activities and our KacsaKő Sport Camps we build a strong social network between participants, developing their skills and abilities through a variety of progammes. We organise trainings for the volunteers who participate in our programmes as activity leaders or counsellors, and we involve youngsters who themselves are coming from underprivileged backgrounds to promote inclusion not only in our activities but in our organisation as well.
